Our Story
Welcome to Hirundo Blacksmith!
We are Daniel and Elena.
Daniel started metalwork as a construction welder in big industry. Feeling the need to be part of a smaller enterprise he went on to work for a local family business that specialized in high end metal constructions. Making and installing everything from greenhouses to staircases and garden gates. Learning to work both with glass and metal, it was an amazing education. Most importantly they gave him the opportunity to further develop his blacksmith skills...
Now many years later it was time to start our own business. With Daniel as designer and blacksmith and Elena as designer and apprentice. Being a trained biologist her love for the nature is of course a big influence on many of our creations.
One evening when thinking what we would name our freshly founded company we were sitting outside of the forge and swallows were flying overhead. It was early spring so their arrival was a welcome sign of the warmer days to come. The barn swallow, in Latin; Hirundo rustica. What a nice name we thought, Hirundo...
Making their nests on a nearby wall, swallows have been our constant companions at the forge during those wonderful spring and summer days so we thought it very appropriate to name our business after our playful, winged neighbors!
Hirundo Blacksmith was born and our mission is simple; to make beautiful items of truly high quality that can be enjoyed for many years to come ...
Many of our designs are rooted in history but we like to give them our own specific twist which makes our creations both unique and refreshing.
Thank you for visiting! And we hope you find something in our shop to treasure for a lifetime....
